However, shortly after their release the media were crying about how dangerous Hoverboards can be. However, not all Hoverboards need to be dangerous. In fact, Hoverboards can be the safest electric gadgets available provided that you follow certain guidelines.

Although the media were reporting such incidents, very little is said about the reasons behind those misfortunate events.

What are UL Certified Hoverboards?

First of all [and this is the most important] it needs to be up to UL 2272 safety standard. This is essentially Hoverboard-specific.

This type of UL Certification checks the quality of the electrical circuitry so that the risk of Hoverboards starting to smoke [and catch on fire] is minimised.

Secondly, we recommend you specifically check the charger to ensure that it is compliant with UL 60950. Furthermore, the batteries should also be compliant with UN 38.3 and UL 1642.

Last, but not least, for those in the US you can go and check the Hoverboard you want to purchase for sale here for recalls. These guys keep track of all past recalls (we don’t recommend you buy those for obvious reasons).
